About Bhrigu Samhita

Maharishi Bhrigu Ji, the authentic character of the Vedas and Puranas, was born millions of years ago in Susha Nagar of Brahmaloka. He was the Manas Putra of Brahma Ji. He had two siblings from his parents. His elder brother’s name was Angira Rishi. Whose son was Brihaspati Ji who is known as the priest of the gods, Devaguru. The astrology book ‘Bhrigu Samhita’ written by Maharishi Bhrigu is famous all over the world for its predictions. Bhrigu Samhita is a collection of rare manuscripts whose original language is Sanskrit and it is composed of shlokas, many coded words have been used in it. Bhrigu Samhita has predictions about the past, present and future. Apart from this, Bhrigu Samhita also tells about previous births. There is a very famous story in this context as to why Bhrigu Samhita was written. According to the story of the conclusion section of Padma Purana, during the yagya being performed on Mandarachal mountain, a dispute arose among the sages and saints on who was the best among the three gods (Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva). To test the gods, the sages and saints appointed Maharishi Bhrigu as the examiner. While testing the three gods, Maharishi Bhrigu first reached Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva. At that time Lord Shiva was roaming around with his wife Sati. Rudras like Nandi stopped Maharishi at the entrance itself. When he insisted on meeting Lord Shiva, the Rudras also insulted him. The enraged Maharishi Bhrigu declared Lord Shiva as Tamoguni and cursed him to be worshipped in the form of Linga.
From here Maharishi Bhrigu reached his father Brahma. Brahma was sitting in his court. All the gods were sitting in front of him. Brahma Ji did not even ask Bhrigu Ji to sit. Then Maharishi Bhrigu declared Brahma Ji as Rajoguni and cursed him to be unworshipable (one who will not be worshipped). Angered by the insult and contempt he received in Kailash and Brahmalok, Maharishi went to Vishnulok.
Lord Shri Hari Vishnu was roaming in the Ksheer Sagar on a beautiful snake-shaped boat (Sheshnag) with his wife Lakshmi Shri. At that time Shri Vishnu Ji was sleeping. Maharishi Bhrigu Ji felt that Vishnu was pretending to be asleep on seeing him coming. He hit Shri Vishnu Ji’s chest with his right foot. Vishnupriya Lakshmi Ji who was pressing Shri Hari’s feet, became angry at this rude behavior of Maharishi Bhrigu and the insult of her husband and she cursed that from today onwards I will not live in the house of Brahmins, Brahmins will always be deprived of wealth and prosperity. But Shri Vishnu Ji caught the feet of Maharishi and said, Lord! My hard chest did not hurt your soft feet. Maharishi Bhrigu was both ashamed and pleased by this generous word of Lord Vishnu. He declared Shri Hari Vishnu to be the best among the Tridevas and had Satvik qualities.
Thereafter when Maharishi Bhrigu asked Lord Vishnu for a solution to get rid of Lakshmi ji’s curse, Lord Vishnu told Maharishi Bhrigu to write a book which would bring welfare to the people and the curse given to the Brahmins would also become ineffective due to its effect. With the inspiration of Lord Vishnu, Maharishi Bhrigu wrote a rare book for the welfare of the people and for getting rid of Lakshmi ji’s curse which became famous as Bhrigu Samhita.
